It was a fun-filled weekend at LCC last week as on Saturday, our Middle School kids learned about setting goals with God in mind. And then on Sunday, our members packed cookies to be delivered to our first responders for God’s Work, Our Hands Sunday.
The Middle Schoolers enjoyed playing soccer and handball in the gym event led by Coach Tim Pennell and Heather McGrath, led by our Director of Student and Family Ministries, Lori Bell. Then they went outside and gobbled up pizza from Hungry Howie’s. When they came back inside, Pastor Lisa led them in a devotional on what they might consider when making decisions in the form of the Ten Commandments for Setting Goals with God. The Commandments included thinking things through, asking what Jesus would do, and setting as the highest goal pleasing God and helping others. A total of 19 kids came to the event, which also included an impromptu performance by some of them of the new dance craze, Church Clap!
Then on Sunday between the services, our church members assembled in the Fellowship Hall to package up the cookies that had been donated the previous couple of weeks. These were joined by personal care bags that the Day School kids had assembled, and they went out to our area First Responders as a way of saying thank you to these brave women and men who put their lives on the line every day for all of us, helping to keep us safe. By the numbers, 374 dozen cookies were packaged into 40 trays that went to 13 fire stations in St. Pete. Two trays also went to stations in Clearwater. Out of a total of 50 personal care bags made by the Day School, 40 went to the first responders and 10 went to Day Star. Thank you so much to everyone who donated, assembled, delivered and coordinated to make this year’s GWOH project so successful!
Next weekend will also be busy for LCC as on Friday night, Denice and David Higman will host Simply Social at their home from 6-8 PM, and then on Saturday we will have our Backwards Party for our elementary children in Fellowship Hall from 6-8 PM. Look for reports on those soon!
