Mark your calendars – The Cathedral Choir of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis will be offering their talents at our 9:00 AM service on March 16!
This choir, which is comprised of high school-age singers from over 30 different schools, has a wide range of musical backgrounds. In their home congregation, they sing for worship weekly during the school year and in special musical offerings throughout the year. Their presence and musical offerings add an element of youthful energy to their worship services. Cathedral Choir is a musical and relational experience that helps adolescents develop and enrich their individual faith story, and we look forward to having them enrich ours as well!
The Choir consists of 154 singers, with 142 youth and 12 singing chaperones. A total of contingent of 164 will be coming from Mount Olivet. The Cathedral Choir is under the direction of Dr. Beverly Claflin, with accompanist Shelley Ohnsorg. The Director of Youth, Geoff Arenson; and Youth Pastor Mark Dixon will also be traveling with the group. They are spending three days in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area, and we are honored they chose LCC for leading worship. This choir did come to our church many years ago, and we are glad to host them once again.
Senior Pastor David Lose will offer the message for the service. He has served as their pastor since 2017, and before that he served as president of Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. Previously he served as the Director of the Center for Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary. He is the author of numerous books, including Preaching at the Crossroads: How the World — and Our Preaching — Is Changing (2013), Making Sense of the Cross (2011), Making Sense of the Christian Faith (2010), Making Sense of Scripture (2009), and Confessing Jesus Christ: Preaching in a Postmodern World (2003). He speaks widely in the United States and abroad on preaching, Christian faith in a postmodern world, and biblical interpretation.
We are extremely honored to be offered this opportunity to have them add to our worship service. A reception will follow. Please try to come as early as you can that morning as this is sure to be a popular service.
