This Fall our mid-week Bible study will focus on Paul’s presentation of what he viewed as the basics of the Christian faith. It’s found in the book of Romans, which he wrote as an introduction to his teaching about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Romans is the basis of most of the faith traditions that came out of the Reformation. Lutheranism, especially, owes an enormous debt to the teaching found in Romans. In fact, often Lutherans are accused of having a “Romans lens” that neglects other books of the New Testament and doesn’t lean on Jesus’ teaching enough.
In this study Pastor Bruce hopes to introduce an understanding of Romans that easily blends with the teaching of Jesus found in the gospel, as well as such books that focus on how we live as Christians (like James.) This comes from a newer way to approach Paul’s writings that puts Paul and the early church squarely in the Judaism of Jesus’ day.
Even though Romans is the basis for this study, the goal of these weeks will be to discuss and examine the basics of the faith in Jesus Christ and what it means to live as a Christian. You don’t have to have any experience with Bible studies to join our meetings. In fact, this study would be a good first start at experiencing studying the Bible in a group.
Each week there will be two sessions that you can join, Wednesday nights at 6:30, or Thursday mornings at 10. Both will also be on Zoom, so you can follow the links and join from anywhere with a cell phone, tablet or computer. You can swap sessions that you attend as your schedule permits. Please consider joining us for this study that takes us back to the roots of Christian teaching.
