Building on Milestones

It is always helpful to joyfully celebrate important milestones in our lives. Often milestones come with fulfilling and committing ourselves to the future. When we get married, many of us have receptions afterward to rejoice in our newly made promises. People will often have retirement parties thrown for them, not just to say goodbye but also to mark their important transition into a new life direction.

And so this Fall our commitment to each other and our church is a true milestone. A milestone reached not only in sixty years of ministry at LCC, but a milestone in recovering and building stronger for a better future. As we approach our decision to commit ourselves to another church year, we have been focusing on the positive impact on our lives by being generous towards God. On October 26th we will celebrate and dedicate our commitments towards the sixty-first year for our life as a church. And that very evening we will celebrate with our 60th Anniversary celebration.

We decided to dedicate our gifts and celebrate LCC’s ministry on that day for several reasons. Most importantly, Lutheran Church of the Cross was chartered on Reformation Day in 1965. Also, Lutherans have always chosen to look forward as well as back on Reformation Sunday, remembering the gifts of the renewal of the original Reformation movement, while also taking time to consider how we are called to continue to reform and adapt for the gospel in our time.

Which brings us back to those pesky pledge cards. In the sermon this Sunday (spoiler alert!) we will explore how giving can actually be fun. Not something we HAVE to do, but something we GET to do. And how by framing it that way, our decision about our commitment can be transformed into a joy-filled experience. By filling one out prayerfully and faithfully, we are making an investment in God’s plans for LCC, our community and indeed the Kingdom of God. And that ought to be exciting, even (dare I say it) FUN!

If you haven’t yet gotten around to making a commitment, there is still time, but we’d like to hear from you soon so we can bless the commitments on the 26th. And this year we’ve made it uber-easy by adding a way for you to pledge on our website under the giving portal (in case you accidentally threw out the paper copy!) Clicking the link in the button below will take you to our online commitment form. We will continue to take financial pledges beyond October 26th, but we encourage you to do so sooner so we can plan our budget for next year.

So come join us in the fun!
