Approximately 100 members and friends of LCC gathered on Reformation Sunday evening to commemorate God’s ministry in our church for the last 60 years. The evening included a delicious Italian feast courtesy of Carrabba’s, as well as appetizers and desserts from our kitchen angels.
We were honored by the presence of three of our charter members, Jane (Dorwart) Sundblad and her children Jeff and Brenda. Jane has often attended Bible studies on Zoom from her home north of us. Since her children just happened to be visiting her, so they all came for the event!
The evening’s entertainment featured a history of the church delivered by our own Mark Catledge. Mark is a talented ventriloquist whose stage partner Madam Edna responded to questions he asked about LCC’s history, and unbelievably, the “dummy” got all the questions right! Although she did have trouble answering when Mark was drinking a glass of water…Our Sunday musicians from both services provided and evening of light jazz and standards to set the tone. Thanks to Marc on piano, Frank on drums, Jim on bass and Tommy on the guitar.
A shout-out thank you was given to everyone who helped our church recover from the hurricanes last year. Special thanks and gift baskets were given to David Beck, Julie Scanlon and Steve and Lynn Cropper for their extraordinary efforts in dealing with remediation and insurance issues, as well as unpacking the many, many boxes and getting the offices, youth room and other areas back to normal. Thanks also to our Caring Ministries Team and the donations that allowed us to offer this event for free.
A commemorative history of the church from its founding to the present day was created by Milt Reed. Copies were placed on the tables, and it will be posted on our website in the near future. It includes many photos and details the many changes and challenges our congregation has faced as we responded to Christ’s call to be his church in Shore Acres and the surrounding communities over the years.
As we look forward to what God will be up to in the coming years, one thing is for certain: Christ’s work in our communities and in our world will continue, and together, we will continue to worship, grow and share.
