Gospel Goes to the Movies– THE SEQUEL!

Grab your popcorn (or coffee, or whatever snack you want) and come on down to our Gospel Goes to the Movies Sunday message series at our 10:45 AM service in Fellowship Hall! Yes, we are returning to the popular series that we did two years ago, looking at the messages of redemption, courage, inspiration and life that popular movies convey.

Thanks be that the good news of God’s love, the importance of forgiveness, the value and uniqueness of everyone, and many other messages of God are not limited to Sunday Sermons! Let’s celebrate the power of God’s truth wherever we find it, learning to use even the movies to spread messages that further God’s kingdom plans.

We’re already off to a running start with last week’s discussion of the Disney Pixar movie, “Up,” the story of Carl, a curmudgeonly widower whose dream is to move his house to Paradise Falls, a place he’d shared as a dream location with is now deceased wife, Ellie. Along the way to trying to fulfill his dream, he meets up with Russell, a boy adventurer who is trying to earn his final merit badge, Assisting the Elderly. Joining forces with a talking dog named Dug and an exotic bird named Kevin, they battle a greedy avian collector, and ultimately Carl realizes that his real dream is to have fulfilling relationships in his life.

The series will continue for another eight Sundays. Doesn’t matter if you’ve seen the films we’ll be discussing or not – a brief summary is always provided. But more importantly, what is always provided is the message of God’s love as it is worked out in our lives in many different ways. So join us as we explore together how Hollywood, whether or not they realize it, can reflect timeless themes that are central to our Christian faith and witness.
