Contemporary Considerations

Contemporary Considerations

Seven months ago, our church began an experimental worship experience in the Fellowship Hall. For lack of another name, it was called The Contemporary Service. This service has taken off quite well, but as with all things in life, perhaps it could use a little tweaking or retooling. So we would like to tell you about some exciting changes coming up for our second service. First, starting Sunday, April 30, we will be switching to a topical message series for our sermons. Our first series will be called Hope. We’ll look at what hope is, what it is not, where we find it, what to do when we lose it, and how to share it with someone who needs it. If you have suggestions for future topics to consider, please contact the pastors.
In addition to the switch to topical messages, we will also be tweaking how the messages are presented. We will be engaging in more of a dialog with those who attend. Although we are theologically trained, we pastors know we certainly don’t have all the answers, and so following the biblical suggestion to “come, let us reason together” (Isaiah 1:18), we will present the topic and then encourage responses. We feel this interaction will greatly enhance the experience and help all of us to grow together.
We’d also love to hear from our regular second service attendees as to what they’d like to have in the service. What do you like? What would you change? What should we consider doing that we
aren’t yet doing? Which leads to the final, and perhaps most fun thing we’d like to change: We’re looking for a new name for the service. Lots of churches have names for their contemporary services, and we’d like you to brainstorm to come up with a name that you think fits our relaxed, kid-friendly, interactive worship experience. All suggestions will be prayerfully considered! So please email the pastors with any names you can think of. And if you have comments about other aspects of the second service, we’d also love to hear from you.
