Yearly Events

Blessing of the Backpacks (Saturay & Sunday August 20 & 21, 2011)
During our weekend services just prior to the beginning of school, all school aged students are asked to bring their school bags to church.  During a special children’s sermon, all students, Pre-k to college, are invited to gather at the altar for a prayer, blessing, and sending as their school year starts.

LCC Annual Golf Tournament (Friday, October 21, 2011)
Gather your favorite foursome together and join us at Mangrove Golf Course on 62 Ave at noon for a rousing afternoon of fun.  This tournament is best-ball style play with the winners receiving trophies, plaques, and gift certificates, along with various other prizes awarded following the silent auction.  A dedicated amount of the monies raised during this tournament help to support our growing number of seminarians here at LCC.  Monies above and beyond that amount are dispersed through the ministries of LCC.

Fall BBQ (Sunday, October 2, 2012)
We as a congregation gather on the “Point,” for a delicious meal of BBQ goodies.  Congregational members supply the sides and desert for this afternoon of family fun, activities, food, and fellowship.  This event is hosted by our Stewardship Ministry Team who also sponsor a speaker.  Past speakers have included community leaders, sports stars, and ELCA representatives.  Keep an eye peeled for your opportunity to get involved in this great event!

Fall Festival (Wednesday, October 26, 2011)  Church, school and community all gather for food, games (the bounce house and the joust are favorites!), crafts, face-painting, music, costume contest and more the last Wednesday of October.

Souper Bowl of Caring
As many throughout the United States prepare to gorge on Super Bowl foods, our youth here at LCC, along with millions across the country, turn their attention to those less fortunate.  As a collective youth group, middle and high school, they gather in an assembly line in our Fellowship Hall and prepare soup meals for our congregation.  These meals are then sold throughout the month January in February and all the proceeds are donated to various food pantries and shelters in the St. Petersburg area.

Thanksgiving Pie Social (Wednesday, October 23, 2011)
Following our annual Thanksgiving Eve service, we gather in the Fellowship Hall to share in the delicacies of Thanksgiving food, pumpkin pie, apple pie, pecan pie, the works!

Rummage Sale (Saturday, February 4, 2012)
Each February the Youth Center and Fellowship Hall become packed with your unwanted treasures for the annual Rummage Sale.  Staffed and worked by countless volunteers, youth, and families, this yearly event completely supports and funds the youth ministry programs here at LCC.  Anything and everything from unwanted books to entertainment centers get loaded up in cars and trucks and the money made used to help our youth go to camp and participate in the numerous events throughout the year.
