Confirmation takes place for students in 6th through 8th grade who are ready to commit to an intentional season of learning and formation in preparation for a public affirmation of  faith.  Confirmation Instruction serves as the foundation of Middle School Faith Formation, so there is not a separate middle school Sunday School class.  The curriculum is built around one year of New Testament instruction, one year of Old Testament instruction, and one year of Christian History, Catechism and Christian Living instruction.

While participating in the full 3 year program is recommended, we understand that young people are at different places in their spiritual journeys.  So a student may choose to move through this intentional season of instruction at a different pace.  A conversation with the Director of Student and Family Ministry and/or pastor is required when a student is ready to publicly affirm their faith through the Rite of Confirmation.   Students in this age range who are not interested in going through the Rite of Confirmation, or have already been confirmed, may still participate in other middle school ministry events (camps, etc.).

Besides regular instruction, an important part of Confirmation is ongoing and increased participation in fellowship, worship, and service/outreach.  Students in Confirmation are encouraged to commit to regularly being in worship, regularly participating in youth ministry events (camps, monthly fellowship events, etc), and regularly participating in local outreach/service opportunities.  Students are encouraged to attend a summer mission trip at least once during their confirmation season.
Confirmation Sunday has previously been the last Sunday of October for students in the fall of their 9th grade year, but in 2017 will be shifting to a Sunday in May.  Students in 7th and 8th grade who have been in Confirmation instruction for at least 2 years may express interest in being confirmed.  Older students or adults who have not been through ‘Confirmation class,’ but are still interested in being confirmed, may contact the Director of Student and Family Ministry.  Participation in the Confirmation Retreat is REQUIRED for any student wishing to be confirmed.

The next Confirmation Sunday will be Sunday, May 21, 2017.  Confirmation Retreat dates are being finalized.

The schedule for Confirmation instruction has changed as of Jan. 2017.  Instruction classes will now be twice a month on Sundays from 10:45-noon in the Youth Center.  The revised calendar is below.
