Settin on the porch swing thinkin about me; I was low as a dog with no pedigree
My friend said “stop whining like a pup. Here, read the Bible- it’ll cheer you up!”
I opened up the page to the very first verse – the Bible’s a hist’ry book of the universe!
It’s the inspired word of God and it’s true. I plan to read it all the way through!
I read Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges
I read Ruth and it blessed me so… I just thought I’d let you know,
I read Samuel I, I read Samuel II, I read both Kings and learned something new!
Chronicles I and Chronicles II, but there’s still a lot more readin’ I’ve gotta do.
Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther and Job. I read Psalms and I read Proverbs
I called my preacher and the preacher agreed- I should go ahead and read Ecclesiastes.
I read so long that my eyes got sore but my heart felt good so I read some more.
The Song of Solomon and Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel!
I read Hosea, Joel and Amos, Obadiah- those prophets are famous!
I prayed to the Lord and he granted my wish when I read about Jonah and the big ol’ fish.
Micah, Nahum, Habbakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi:
These are the Old Testament books I read. My soul was hungry but now it’s fed.
Thirty-nine books and I loved each one in the Old Testament- I was having fun!
But there’s twenty-seven more that I must read in New Testament before I leave.
(key change) Hey hey!
I read Matthew, Mark, I read Luke and John, I read Acts and Romans, both Corinthians
Galatians, friends, I’m not teasin’! I didn’t take a break ‘til I read Ephesians!
Phillippians, Colossians, both Thessalonians, Timothy 1, Timothy 2
Titus, Philemon and Hebrews- I may be on a roll but I’m still not through!
I read James, First and Second Peter- I’m a bonified, certified Bible reader!
I read John 1, 2 and 3. The end’s in sight, won’t you cheer for me:
Anybody out there have a clue: the next book that I read was Jude
All 66 books and now I’m done: I just finished Revelation. Hey hey!
